An example project funded by Climategamers:

Plastic Removal in Indonesia

In Indonesia we partner with a community-driven project to recover plastic waste from heavily polluted oceans and rivers.

Removing toxic plastic from waterways & creating valued jobs for local communities

Working with Climategames' Approved Climate Partners, we're on a mission to remove plastic waste & restore local habitats while creating local job opportunities

Plastic Removal from
Oceans & Waterways

Cleaning up our waterways

Local passionate people sail in boats every day to collect waste, with every item bagged, weighed, tagged and registered in a blockchain system.

At a sorting facility, the plastic is sorted into PP, HDPE, LDPE, PET and other plastics and distributed to be recycled or used as waste-to-energy.

Every step of this process is monitored, audited and inspected by Intertek and the project follows the international DNV Chain of Custody Standard for ocean clean up, involving three on-site audits annually and full assessment of the blockchain system used for tracking.

A heavy weight on the ocean

Plastic can take up to 1,000 years to decompose depending on the type and environmental conditions. The approximate weight of plastic items is:
1x plastic straw ⋍ 1g
1x plastic bag  10g
1x 500ml plastic bottle ⋍ 20g

The wider benefits for people and nature

The local people working in this project are paid well above national minimum wage for this important work.

Over time, these cleaner waters are rehabilitated to reintroduce flora and fauna and revitalise the vital eco-systems supporting planetary health.
