Restoring mangrove forests

This project restores a mangrove estuary which is rich in biodiversity and provides fishing grounds for local people. Over a number of years the mangrove forest has been destroyed for other land uses contributing to a loss of critical habitats and threatening the livelihoods of local communities, pushing them further towards the poverty line.

By replanting mangroves and closely monitoring and protecting the forest from further damage, this project also helps stabilise the coastline, a vital defence to protect the land and communities during increasing tropical storms.

Ensuring the forests are here to stay for local communities

Evidence is collected from multiple sources throughout the lifecycle of this project to ensure additionality and permanence. The project uses a public blockchain to ensure transparency and traceability of its work.

Restoring the forest helps create additional income streams for local communities from fishing.

By restoring this estuary we are also breathing life back into the biodiversity below ground which allows nature to maximise its productivity.
