Data breakdown:
The One for the Planet event
Our first-ever in-person sports event takes place this June at Dorney lake, Windsor. In partnership with The One event company join us on 16 June 2024 for a multi-sport event and take part in a triathlon, swim, duathlon, aquabike, aquathlon, or a run. Each one of the events are going to fund ecological impact, from coral reef restoration, to tree planting, plastic removal and carbon sequestration.
Tree planting
Thanks to our users, we planted 8,394 trees globally, including in countries including Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Morocco, Ecuador and Ethiopia. Our tree planting partner Veritree uses blockchain technology to verify, digitise, and store the information of each tree they plant. This process not only allows for ground-level visibility but also eliminates the risk of double counting
Removing plastic from the oceans
We hit a new level of impact this year, and funded the removal of 70,000 plastic bottles from our waterways which equates to 1,383kg of plastic. Our Indonesian on-site partner, ReSea Project engages local communities to recover plastic waste from heavily polluted oceans and rivers. Their collection process is certified by DNV and includes 3 annual on-site audits and regularly reviews the data collection process using a blockchain system.
Carbon sequestration
In 2023 59,699kg of carbon was sequestered through our current projects which protect vital carbon sinks, capture methane from landfill, and avoid emissions by improving the supply of clean water to communities. From Q2 this year, we are partnering with complex long-term carbon removal projects delivered by Cur8, which include enhanced rock weathering, bio-building materials, direct air capture and biochar.
